Last Night of Proms

The Proms also known as The BBC Proms, or The Henry Wood Promenade Concerts presented by the BBC, is an eight-week summer season of daily orchestral classical music concerts and other events held annually in the Royal Albert Hall in London. in the Albert Hall, a series of chamber concerts at Cadogan Hall, additional Proms in the Park events across the United Kingdom on the last night, and associated educational and children's events. In 2009 for the first time the total number of concerts reached 100. In the context of classical music festivals, Jiri Belohlavek has described the Proms as "the world's largest and most democratic musical festival". Most people's perception of the Proms is taken from the Last Night, although this concert is very different from the others. Last Night of the Proms is usually organised on the second Saturday in September, and is broadcast in the UK on BBC2 (first half) and BBC1 (second half).

Prom is short for promenade concert, a term which originally referred to outdoor concerts in London's pleasure gardens, where the audience was free to walk around while the orchestra was playing. Single-concert Promming tickets can be bought, with few exceptions, only on the day of the concert, which can give rise to long queues for well-known artists or works. Proms concert-goers, particularly those who stand, are sometimes described as "Promenaders", but are most commonly referred to as "Prommers". Prommers can buy full- or half-season tickets instead for guaranteed entry (until 20 minutes before the concert is due to start), although not the assurance of a particular standing position. A number of Prommers are particularly keen in their attendance.

Last Night of the Proms will return for 2012 at London's Royal Albert Hall on 8 September 2012. Last Night of The Proms Tickets for Last Night of The Proms 2012 are available at Ticket Royale for affordable price.

Six Nations

The Six Nations Championship (referred to as RBS 6 Nations for sponsorship reasons) is an annual international rugby competition. There are six European sides: England, France, Ireland, Italy, Scotland and Wales.

The Six Nations Championship is the successor to the Five Nations and the Home Nations Championship. The current sponsors of the event are Royal Bank of Scotland. The winners of the Six Nations Championship are also known as the European Champions. France are the last winners of a Grand Slam in 2010, when they defeated Wales at the Stade de France in a 28-9 win. England are the current title holders, defeating France on 19 March 2011.

The format of the Championship is simple: each team plays every other team once, with home field advantage alternating from one year to the next. Two points are given for a win, one for a draw and none for a loss. Unlike many other rugby union competitions the bonus point system is not used. If a team wins all its games, they are said to have won a 'Grand Slam'. England holds the record for the number of Grand Slams won with 12, followed by Wales with 10, France with 9, Scotland with 3 and Ireland with 2. Previously consecutive Grand Slams have been achieved on five occasions, by Wales in 1908 and 1909, by England in 1913 and 1914, 1923 and 1924 and 1991 and 1992, and by France in 1997 and 1998.

The hard court (Plexicushion) Australian Open and clay court French Open precede Wimbledon in the calendar year. The hard court (DecoTurf) US Open follows. For men, the grass court Queen's Club Championships, also in London, as well as the Gerry Weber Open in Halle, Germany, serve as warm-up events. For women, the AEGON Classic in Birmingham and 2 joint events, the UNICEF Open in s-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands and the Eastbourne International serve as warm-up events to Wimbledon.

Wimbledon traditions include a strict dress code for competitors, the eating of strawberries and cream by the spectators, and Royal patronage.
